DGII (Tax & Customs Authority)
What Is DGII?
DGII stands for Dirección General de Impuestos Internos — the tax authority in several Spanish-speaking Latin American and Caribbean countries. It collects import duties and tax at the border, and it is the agency that clears or holds cargo at customs.
Three things matter to an importer: DGII assesses duty on the shipment’s declared value at the country’s general rates; it collects tax on top of the duty — so a 10%-duty product pays tax on 110% of its value; and it cross-checks your declared value against its own price reference, so under-invoiced shipments get selected for inspection.
When you book door-to-door with all duties and taxes paid, DGII clearance is handled before delivery — nothing is collected from you at the door.
