Shanghai to New York: one cold-chain air service

ChrisLion Logistics moves temperature-sensitive pharma cargo from Shanghai Pudong (PVG) to New York JFK every day. One team manages the shipment from our Shanghai warehouse to the final U.S. address.

Pharma cargo should not wait on an open apron, transfer through another hub, or sit at customs while its temperature changes. We plan the full route before the cargo moves.

8°C service and other temperature ranges

Most shipments use our 8°C service. We can also handle 2–8°C, 15–25°C and CRT (controlled room temperature).

We move vaccines, diagnostics, biologics, clinical trial kits, drug substances and other temperature-sensitive pharma cargo.

Thermal covers and protective wrapping prepare the 8°C pallet for flight.

Before booking, we confirm the temperature range, packaging, cargo ready time and cold-room space. If the shipment needs 2–8°C or CRT, we check these details again before we confirm the booking.

Typical equipment includes temperature-control packs, thermal pallet covers, insulated boxes and data loggers. We monitor the shipment from packing in Shanghai through arrival at JFK.

Shanghai warehouse and cold-chain delivery to the final door

Our temperature-controlled warehouse in Shanghai receives pharma cargo, checks it, labels it, packs it and keeps it in the required temperature range. We release the cargo only when the flight is ready.

The shipment then stays temperature-controlled on the way to PVG, during airport handling, on the direct flight to JFK, through U.S. customs and on the final delivery.

One temperature record follows the shipment from Shanghai to the final door. We do not restart monitoring at each handover. For hospitals, laboratories, distribution centers and clinical sites, we arrange the delivery window and proof of delivery.

GDP and CEIV Pharma standards at PVG

At PVG, ChrisLion uses cold-chain facilities that follow GDP (Good Distribution Practice) and CEIV Pharma standards. We check the facility certificate and audit scope before booking.

After inspection and sign-off, the cargo moves into a cold room and is prepared for the direct PVG–JFK flight. If there is a temperature or document issue, our team resolves it before departure.

Standard air freight often splits these steps between several companies. ChrisLion keeps the cold room, booking, customs paperwork, arrival time and U.S. delivery under one team.

Customer story: lower cost, lower emissions

A U.S. pharmaceutical customer ships temperature-sensitive testing materials from Shanghai. The customer wanted lower costs, less packaging waste and no loss of temperature control.

ChrisLion moved the shipments through the Shanghai cold warehouse, the PVG cold room and the direct PVG–JFK service. One team managed booking, customs and U.S. delivery.

After three months of shipments, the customer reported:

MetricResult
Transport cost12% lower than the customer’s previous cold-chain route
Carbon emissions28% lower after removing an extra transfer and shortening cold-room time
Packaging waste35% less through reusable boxes and fewer repacks
Temperature recordsOne record from the Shanghai warehouse to final delivery

These figures come from one customer program. The customer name and contract details are kept private.

Planned U.S. cities

New York is our first U.S. pharma lane. We plan to add Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Seattle and Las Vegas.

For inland cities, we manage the domestic flight or truck leg, customs clearance and final cold-chain delivery. We can also support shipments to Canada and Mexico.
